I’d completely forgotten that one of the most brilliant parts of working here in Paris (leaving aside, for the moment, the bare fact that I’m *working* here in *Paris*) is that everyone who wants to ask me to do something is six to nine timezones away. What this means, in point of practice, is that when I get up in the morning here, it’s around 9 pm in California, so the influx of e-mail has more or less stopped; what’s in the inbox is what will be in the inbox. And then, as folks in California get up and start heading back to their email — well, it’s 5 pm here; time for an aperitif!
