Im teaching my [Big Novel](http://machines.pomona.edu/55-2007/) class for the second time this semester, having struggled a bit while teaching it the first time during [Spring 2004](/perhaps_the_dumbest_teaching_question_ever/), and the class is proving to me daily what a difference a blog can make. Three years ago, my students wrote weekly reading responses; this year, instead, theyre blogging their reading, and because theyre constantly in dialogue with one another about the books, and not just with me, theyre asking really good questions about the reading, theyre making really interesting connections, and theyre helping one another out with ideas. Discussion flows brilliantly, both in and out of the classroom, and it just makes me happy.
Midterm papers arrive today; Im really looking forward to seeing what kinds of effects the blog has had there.
